Determining Experience Gains

Determining Experience Gains: After you have fulfilled 30 ranks of Disarm and Picking Locks you will be able to see a much greater increase in the amount of learning you gain from locksmithing. Finding the amount of experience you get is quite easy. First take a look at this sample table outlining a lockpicker with 0 wisdom bonus and 200 skill bonus in picking:

Lock
Size Experience

500 150
490 145
480 140
470 135
460 130
450 125
440 120
430 115
420 110
410 105
400 100
390 90
380 80
370 70
360 60
350 50
340 40
330 30
320 25

For values in between, the experience value is higher (i.e. a 425 lock would be 115 experience).

Now find your max lock with your lockpick. Max lock is your skill bonus plus your wisdom bonus all times your lockpick modifier. Drop that down to the closest +5, and place that number at the top of the table. Now follow the pattern down by subtracting ten. As you see, if Lock Size is within 100 points of your max, then your experience is equal to:

150 - [int((Max-Lock)/10)]*5

If the Lock Size is more than 100 points below your max, then Experience is equal to:

100 - (((Max-100)-Lock)/10)*10

I think it's just easier to use the table though.

Determine your Maximums

Determine your Maximums

Max Lock Without Lore: (Skill + WI Bonus) * lockpick mod (Round down to nearest 5)

Max Lock With Lore: (Skill + WI Bonus + ((Level/2 + Skill/10 + Dex Bonus/4 + Wis Bonus/4)rounded down to nearest 1)) * pick mod (Down to nearest 5)

Max Trap Without Lore: (Skill + WI Bonus) (Rounded down to nearest 5)

Max Trap With Lore: (Skill + WI Bonus + (Level/2 + Skill/10 + Ref Bonus/4 + Dis Bonus/4)) (Down to nearest 5)

Lockpick Modifiers

Lockpick Modifiers

Lockpick Multiplier
--------------------------
Crude 1.1
Common 1.2
Good 1.25
Quality 1.3
Professional 1.5
Jagged Wire 1.8
Mithril 1.9
Precision 1.9
Tapered 2.15
Alum 2.5

This is the amount that your lockpick skill is multiplied, thus someone who has a lockpicking skill of 200 uses a Crude lockpick, it would inturn result in his skill being reflected as 220. If he were to use an Alum lockpick, it would be reflected as 500.

Also, while testing my Jagged Wire lockpick, I slightly damaged it. Now, for my tests I was logging the lock size, roll, and any RT I had, as well has how much experience the lock gave me. However, once I damaged the lockpick, I noticed my experience differed from what I had on my chart. For example, picking a -350 with the damaged pick gave me 140 experience, when a -350 is supposed to give me 130 experience based on max lock 395. I also picked a -215 with the damaged pick, and it gave me 50 experience, when it was supposed to only give me 30. What this means is the modifier changed. The modifier dropped one tenth (.1), making it now 1.7, making my max lock a 370, which puts it correct. I will have to do more tests with damaged lockpicks to make sure that this is exactly true.

Mind you if you get the lockpick repair, either before you snap it or after, it will go back to the original modifier.
